The Secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but building the new

Building blocks.

So I am sat in the hospital after my 5th stroke. When I realised I had a strength and fight I never knew existed. My 5th stroke had made my left arm stop moving completely, I could walk but had no control over my left foot. So I was incredibly unbalanced. The surgeon is telling me she still can’t operate as the tumour is in too much of a dangerous part of the brain. So I am to be discharged. Now I don’t know about you, but I thought I would go to hospital and be made better. There was no way I was going home with only one working arm.

So after 15 years and 5 strokes. I think I had finally had enough. I needed a solution and in that moment I realised that it was down to me. So I told the brain surgeon that no they can’t discharge me because my arm didn’t work and I couldn’t live like that. She looked a little taken aback but told me she would get me assessed by the Physios. So I continued to stay in the hospital until I was seen by the Physios. Thank god I did. Because I was given 8 weeks inpatient rehab. This included Physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and neurological  psychology. All these things combined help you to not only improve your strength but also teach you skills to living in your old world in your new body.

In rehab I realised that with consistent work and determination anything is possible. Including getting my arm working again!!!!!

I now use everything I learnt in physio to apply to my whole life. It really is the foundation that my work, my yoga, my life is built on now.
